How do I know if genioplasty is right for me?
You will require a surgical consultation which includes an evaluation of your goals and concerns, health history information and assessment of your physical condition. X-rays and other imaging techniques may be used to determine if the genioplasty surgery will correct the problem. Many patients who have a very small or very large chin may require orthognathic (jaw) surgery in order to correct issues with the manner in which the jaws relate to each other and the teeth come together. If this is the case, genioplasty alone may not correct the problem. Dr. Weinstein will tell you more, and help you make the best decision for your lifestyle and health.
How do I know if I need a chin implant or if my natural chin can be enhanced?
A surgical consultation, diagnostic images such as X-rays, and measurements taken will all be determining factors in deciding upon the proper course of action.
How much recovery time will I need?
Recovery time varies by procedure. Most patients, while still healing, can return to fairly normal activities within 7 to 10 days following genioplasty surgery. You will be given specific instructions specific to your surgery once your final treatment plan is established.
Will I be able to see how the results are likely to look BEFORE you do the surgery?
Yes. We use an imaging program which can predict the surgical results of genioplasty using photographic imaging, X-rays, and measurements. While the prediction results are not intended to provide an exact and 100% accurate prediction of the results you will achieve, it is a useful tool in demonstrating the effects of genioplasty for patients.
Will I have a scar on my face from this surgery?
No. All incisions are made from within the mouth in order to eliminate the need for visible facial scarring.
