How long do dermal fillers last?
We offer three types of dermal fillers. Restylane and Juvéderm are most often used in areas such as the lips in order to achieve greater volume and to reduce fine lines. Both dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in the skin, which gives skin it’s fullness and suppleness. Restylane provides results for about 6 to 9 months, and Juvéderm can last 6 months to one year.
Radiesse, a longer lasting dermal filler, is made up of hydroxylapatite, which stimulates the body’s natural ability to produce collagen. Radiesse can be used to build up cheekbones, facial structures, “smile lines,” and help smooth hollow eyes. Radiesse will last for up to two years.
Which filler is best for me?
Your surgeon will help you decide which filler is best for you, taking important factors into consideration. Determining factors include the area being treated, your specific aesthetic goals, and the results desired.
Does it hurt?
Treatment is performed by injection, utilizing a local anesthesia. There is very little discomfort involved, although the treated area may be slightly sore or swollen for a short period following treatment. Most patients require very little, if any recovery time and are able to return to normal activities right away. Adverse reactions are uncommon, but may include edema, bruising or rarely, an allergic reaction.
Is it safe?
Juvéderm, Restylane, and Radiesse consist of natural substances which have been used in medicine for many years. Restylane has been used in more than three million treatments in over 70 countries. Juvéderm, Restylane, and Radiesse are now FDA approved in the US for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds.
