How does BOTOX® work?
Botox Cosmetic is a naturally-occurring, purified protein that has the ability to block nerve impulses in muscle tissue, resulting in relaxation of the muscle, which prevents the formation of wrinkles in the skin. It is administered in very small doses via tiny injections.
Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein, not an active or inactive culture. On rare occasions, serious allergic reactions have been reported. Skin reactions, including rashes are uncommon. Only a trained healthcare professional may administer the treatment.
How soon will I see results?
Results will be noticeable within the first few days following treatment. Full effects may take 7 to 10 days to be apparent. Approximately 89% of patients judged the severity of their frown lines as moderate or better by day 30 in a patient clinical study. Visible results can last up to four months, at which time you could begin follow up treatment.
Is treatment permanent?
Results of treatment with Botox Cosmetic will diminish and wear off after about 1 ½ to 3 months. We recommend follow-up treatments about every 10 weeks in order to maintain results.
What causes frown lines between the eyebrows and how does Botox Cosmetic help?
Muscle movement and time are the main causes for the lines between your brows. There are two muscles that are primarily responsible for the frown lines between the brows. When they contract, they draw the brows together. The repetition of frowning can eventually result in moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows. Botox Cosmetic reduces the movement of those particular muscles by blocking the nerve impulses. The skin surface will then gradually smooth out, and the lines between the brows will begin to fade.
Is Botox Cosmetic FDA-approved?
Botox Cosmetic is the only treatment of its kind that is approved by the FDA.
What is the treatment like?
Botox Cosmetic injections are minimally invasive and require no recovery time. Discomfort involved with injections is eliminated through the use of optional topical anesthetic. Treatment will take approximately 10 minutes and you can return to most normal activities immediately.
How does Botox Cosmetic compare to other options?
Botox Cosmetic is relatively inexpensive compared to other aesthetic treatment options. According to a survey by the American Society for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, Botox Cosmetic is one of the least costly facial aesthetic procedures. Considering the difference it can make in the frown lines between your brows, it may be a great way to invest in yourself.
