Pre- and Post- Treatment Instructions

Before Your Treatment

• Discontinue use of aspirin, Tylenol, or any herbal supplements such as Ginkobiloba for at least two week before your procedure.
• Do not eat or drink anything, including water, for at least six hours before your procedure, unless special medication has been prescribed.
• The day of procedure, wear button down or zip down shirt.
• No makeup on the day of the procedure.
• Patient must have a driver present at the time of the procedure for the ride home. Patients will not be permitted to be driven home by a taxi or a bus.
• Supplements are to be taken as directed to minimize bruising and promote healing.
• Wash hair, face, and neck with Hibacleanse on the night before the procedure. (Hibacleanse is an over-the-counter product and no prescription is necessary.)

After Your Treatment

For 3 Weeks Following the Procedure:

1. Don’t pull down!

• Raise brow, smile and extend neck before touching the pillow
• No drinking with straws or taking large bites (such as biting and apple)
• Hold brow up if crying, coughing, or sneezing
• Avoid straining (because of involuntary grimacing)

2. Call if:

• Lift is too high after 5 to 7 days post-op.
• Signs of suture breakage are visible.
• You experience sudden relapse or asymmetry.
• Bumps appear on the face (where the suture was trimmed).

3. Hold cold compresses over the face as tolerated for the first 48 hours (bag of frozen peas is suggested for compress).

4. Sleep and lie only on the back, with the head elevated above the heart for one week. Use the neck pillow which was provided at the pre-op appointment.

5. Pain treatment with acetaminophen (as needed) or pain medication.

6. Schedule a follow-up visit (as needed).

7. Wear a headband for one week after procedure.

8. Your doctor may give you additional instructions.
