Pre- and Post- Treatment Instructions

Before Your Treatment

• No food or water for at least six hours before your procedure.
• Dress comfortably in loose-fitting clothes to enable vital signs monitoring
• Wear flat, rubber soled shoes for ease in waking after anesthesia.
• Avoid taking aspirin, Advil, Aleve, or other NSAID’s for one week before surgery.
• Avoid herbal medications such as St. John’s Wort and high doses of Vitamin E prior to surgery.

After Your Treatment

• Keep the surgical area clean and dry.
• Wear your pressure dressings as directed by your doctor.
• Take antibiotics and pain relievers as prescribed.
• Keep your head elevated for the first week after surgery. Sleep with your head elevated on two pillows.
• Ice and cold packs may be used for the first few days after surgery.
