Lesion/Mole Removal

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, about one in every 100 people is born with moles. Defined as dark spots or irregularities in skin color, moles can occur beneath or above the skin. Raised, benign moles can be removed in our Arlington office, as well as vascular lesions and birthmarks. Dr. Weinstein uses one of two surgical methods for mole removal:

  • Excision: Dr. Weinstein removes the mole surgically and closes the wound with sutures.
  • Excision with Cauterization: Dr. Weinstein uses a specialized instrument that vaporizes the affected tissue. This treatment does not usually require suture closure.

Dr. Weinstein will diagnose the area and recommend the best procedure for your unique circumstances.

Common Questions About Lesion/Mole Removal

Will treatment result in a scar?
There is always a risk of scarring with surgical treatment on any kind. Scarring is usually minimal and can often be diminished with a skin care product and/or laser treatment.

Do you treat skin cancers at your office?
No. Suspicious lesions and cancerous lesions are referred to a specialist.

Will the treatment be painful?
No. Treatment is performed utilizing a local anesthesia injection, which will keep the area numb for 2 to 4 hours after treatment.

Will I require sutures?
Some treatments require sutures, which will be removed within 7 to 10 days after surgery.
