Common Questions About Fotofacial

- How many treatments will I need?
- Is the treatment permanent?
- Is treatment painful?
- How long does it take?
How does it work?
Light is changed into energy that penetrates through the epidermis into the dermal layers where many imperfections begin. For example, melasma, sun damage, uneven tone, and discoloration of the skin begins with melanin, a natural pigment in the skin. The red undertones that are typical with rosacea and facial veins are within the skin. The light energy utilized with FotoFacial™ breaks down vascular lesions which are absorbed back into the system. When using FotoFacial ™ therapy to treat pigmented lesions and discolorations, the pigment is drawn out of the skin itself.
How many treatments will I need?
In order to obtain optimal results, a treatment plan consisting of 5 to 6 sessions is required. Treatments are tailored for each patient’s individual needs so that they can obtain the best results. A strong emphasis is placed on patient education in order to ensure the best, longest lasting results.
Is the treatment permanent?
This treatment is not permanent. Follow up treatments are required depending on the needs of the individual. Maintenance treatments, as well as a commitment to daily skin care basics help ensure lasting results. Maintenance treatments are recommended 2 to 4 times per year.
Is treatment painful?
The treatment can feel like a warm rubber band snap. For the comfort of our patients, a very effective topical anesthetic is applied prior to treatment.
How long does it take?
The entire session, including anesthetic application will take approximately 30 minutes.
