Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
The eyes are one of the first areas to show signs of aging. As the focal point of the face, tired or partially closed eyelids can make us appear sad, tired, or angry. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure in which Dr. Weinstein removes excess skin and fat deposits from the upper and lower eyelid. After eyelid surgery, patients achieve a more rested and rejuvenated appearance.
For your comfort, eyelid surgery is performed using a light sedative and local anesthesia. This surgical procedure, while mildly invasive, takes 60 to 90 minutes and does require a short recovery period. Small sutures may be placed on the upper eyelid, which are removed several days after the procedure. Mild edema and discoloration of the tissue may take place for up to several days following surgery.
Patients with the following conditions may be candidates for eyelid surgery:
- Sagging eyelids which create a semi-closed or tired appearance
- Puffiness or bagginess under the eye
- Excess skin tissue overhanging the upper eyelid
Following eyelid surgery, patients can expect a reduction in the appearance of sagging, tired eyelids, as well as improved vision. Recovery time is typically short.
